Mom: [via voicemail] Some bad news about Holden. He hadn’t been eating for the last three of four days. Initially we thought it was maybe because Allie went back to school for summer training. He’s been acting goofy as heck lately, trying to get up on the chairs, even when I was in the room, trying to get down into the basement. Anyway, today he took a nap and I couldn’t get him to get up. I called Dad and he came and took him to the vet. The vet said it looked like he was in some pain and we could try to keep him alive for a couple of months or put him to sleep. Dad decided to put him to sleep. I’m... I'm surprised. I feel really bad about it. So… there’s no more Holden.

Poor Holden. :(

I'm so sorry for your loss Arnie. Such sad times....

Jesus I posted on the last one before reading about Holden, I'm sorry, I don't know what I'd do if I lost Auggie.
I hope things get a little brighter before the end, its getting emotionally tough to deal with these "A Very Special A Year In Pictures..."
(not meaning to be flip)
take care

Awww, Holden. Poor thing. I hope your parents are okay. They are empty nesters now. It must be hard.

So sorry, Arnie.

shoot man. this made me bawl of course. we lost one of our cats this year (as probably everyone knows since I bascially wept through the streets of Chicago for a week). It's so hard and awful, but, of course, gets better. Cold comfort and all that, I know. Anyway, ugh. I'm sorry to hear this news.

My condolences, Arnie. Tried to find a good Holden Caulfield quote for this sad moment. This is the best I could do:

"When I was all set to go, when I had my bags and all, I stood for a while next to the stairs and took a last look down the goddam corridor. I was sort of crying. I don't know why. I put my red hunting hat on, and turned the peak around to the back, the way I liked it, and then I yelled at the top of my goddam voice, 'Sleep tight, ya morons!'"

I never met Holden, but I'll bet he was a pretty cool dude.

RIP Holden

My parents put our dog to sleep on Saturday. And they didn't tell me until the next day and I was pretty mad about that cause I didn't think she was sick enough. And my Mom started to regret it, too, wondering if maybe she had months or years left in her. It was not an easy decision.

Anyway, I had this same pain this week, so I definitely feel for you. I hope our dogs are becoming good friends in heaven right now.

Arnie, I'm sorry Holden had to be put to sleep. I've gone through that, too. You have my condolences.

Our dog passed three years ago...I still sometimes think I should hear her barking when I pull into the drive. Just be prepared, the first time home is the worst. But just like the passing of an old friend the good memories out last the sadness.

Mom: [via e-mail] We got a card in the mail that required us to pay an additional 13 cents today. It was a sympathy card. . . for Holden. . . from the animal clinic's staff that put Holden to sleep. . . and there was a dog with wings on it that you could put on a chain!?!? I'm glad that dad opened it.

Sorry about your dog. Pets are so special.
-Kat
